    PASSION

Don Julio González’s tequila-making adventure started in 1942 in the Jalisco Highlands of Mexico, where he built and opened La Primavera distillery. From the beginning Don Julio’s passion was re-enforced by a strong work ethic, a bold spirit of innovation and absolute dedication to craftsmanship.

    CRAFT

A true pioneer in tequila making from field to bottle, Don Julio dissected every detail of the process and either innovated or improved in his goal to make the very best tequila. Each small, but significant innovation and every detail of Don Julio’s dedication to his craft can still be tasted in every sip of Tequila Don Julio today.

    INTEGRITY

Don Julio dedicated his life to making the very best tequila he could for his family and friends to enjoy. His legacy of passion, craftsmanship and integrity is proudly honoured and continued by master distiller Enrique De Colsa and all who work at the La Primavera distillery today.

    BLUE WEBER AGAVE

Each bottle of Tequila Don Julio is made from handpicked, 100% pure Blue Weber Agave. These are planted further apart than most producers, ensuring that each agave is able to receive more sunlight and nutrients from the rich red soil.

    HAND HARVESTING

After waiting six to 10 years the specially trained jimadors harvest the best agaves by hand. Using a round tool called a coa, the jimador uniformly cuts the leaves from the piña to increase the quality of the juice and remove bitter flavours.

    SLOW COOKING

Piñas are cut by hand into thirds or quarters and then slowly steam-cooked in traditional masonry ovens for three days to concentrate the flavour and relesae the agave juice. It takes 8 pounds of agave to produce one bottle of tequila.

    BARREL AGING

Our aged tequilas are matured for up to five years in the finest grade-A reclaimed American oak barrels which impart a soft bourbon finish to the final spirit. The tequila is bottled only when we deem them to be true to Don Julio’s high standards.
