THE FIFTH CHAPTER OF THE MIDLETON DAIR GHAELACH SERIES FROM KILRANELAGH ESTATE

The fifth chapter of the Midleton Dair Ghaelach series takes us to Kilranelagh Estate near Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow. Situated amidst rolling hills of Wicklow, the native Irish woodland on the estate has been managed carefully and in tune with nature by the Westerholt family for the last 300 years.

Together with our forestry specialist team, 6 Irish oak trees were chosen to create an extremely limited number of casks. These casks were filled with a specially selected range of fifteen to twenty-eight-year-old Single Pot Still whiskeys previously matured in American oak barrels.

Nosed and tasted every month, Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman and Blender, David McCabe kept a vigilant watch on the liquid. After two years, the Irish oak influence was deemed to have struck a perfect balance with the Single Pot Still character. It’s as individual as it is irresistible; whiskey as satisfyingly Irish as it is undeniably elegant.

As an investment in the future of coopering oak, Midleton Very Rare has partnered with Forestry Genetic Research Trust to create an Oak Seed Orchard Project that will curate the next generation of Irish Oak forests.

Midleton Dair Ghaelach Tasting Notes
  • Notes of chocolate dipped honeycomb with caramelised red apples and quince jelly.
  • Luxurious aromas enhanced by the sweetness of coffee cake and vanilla-scented cream, while earthy fragrances are matched by those of an antique cedarwood cigar box.
  • Taste of fresh plums, peaches, and dried apricot, followed by a hint of chilli oil and grated ginger.
  • Delicate oak tannins, perfectly balanced with the fruits and pot still spices
  • Finished with stone fruits, soft spices and oak tannins
Details
  • Single Pot Sill Irish Whiskey
  • 56.9% ABV
